Deciding to leave a job you’re unhappy at can be a tough decision. The fear of the unknown can almost be enough to make you put up with more than you know you should. So how do you finally pull the trigger on leaving a job that’s not a right fit for you? Here’s a few tips!
Pro’s and Con’s
This is an easy technique to figure out if you are really ready to quit your job. But, the trick to this is to write it down! Make a column for all of the things that make you unhappy in your job and then make a column for all of the things that do make you happy in your job. Take a long look at the list and see if you’re willing to stay for the good things, or if it’s time to part ways.
Look Around
Does the unit you work in have a high turnover rate? Do your coworkers seem happy or angry around you? Sometimes it’s really helpful to be aware of your surroundings and see how things are going for not just you, personally. Chances are, if you’re unhappy then people around you are probably unhappy too and that might be the sign you need to quit!
Talk About It
Don’t be afraid to talk to your coworkers, or even your family and friends about how you’re feeling in your job. The outside and unbiased opinions can help you come to final decision. Plus, it never hurts to get something off your chest and can reduce your stress about the whole situation.
Make The Decision
Whether it be to stay or leave, after you’ve done the first steps it’s time to make a decision! Whatever decision you make, though, be sure not to burn any bridges or cause chaos. Even though you may want to say choice words to a boss or coworker who made your life uncomfortable there, be the bigger person and leave with dignity!
