Sticking to a diet during the holidays can be difficult for dialysis patients
If you have Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), your diet is critical during the holidays, especially for those who are on dialysis. It is important to to maintain your renal diet and there are choices you can make so you don’t feel like you are missing out on the Fourth of July Festivities. You just have to do a little more planning to make sure you are eating right.
Plan Ahead:
Make sure you know your portions. If you are at a party or get-together with family and friends, plan ahead to eat smaller meals and drink less earlier in the day. Then you will feel good after the party knowing you didn’t over do it. Just be sure you don’t vear too far off course with your diet plan – or you will pay for it later.
Ask for Assistance:
By reminding family and friends that you are on a special renal diet, they can help you and possibly offer foods you can eat. This is not to say you can’t enjoy what they are preparing – just be smart about it and don’t overdo it. If you do get off course, just remember to get back on track the next day. Keeping your renal diet in check will help you have a fun-filled Fourth of July!
