The American Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP) has been in the business of giving patients the tools necessary to take charge of their lives for more than 40 years. Today the Association announced the pre-sale of its new recipe book, AAKP Delicious! The new recipe book features 16 simple and delicious recipes that are healthy and can be modified to fit any kidney diet.
The recipes were created for AAKP and reviewed by registered dietitians Janelle Gonyea and Stacey Phillips. The recipes are meal solutions for kidney patients regardless of their disease stage. The recipes were designed to be low in sodium, potassium and phosphorus and are either high or low in protein.
“We wanted to create great recipes that can not only be enjoyed by patients, but also by family members,” said AAKP President Sam Pederson. “We know that dinner is a family affair.”
“Rather than focus on the foods patients can’t have, we wanted to celebrate all the foods you can have!,” said Karen Ryals AAKP executive director.
There is no such thing as a one fits all kidney diet. Each meal within the recipe book is labeled whether it’s healthy for a chronic kidney disease (CKD) patient, dialysis patient, transplant patient, diabetic patient or a combination of conditions. Each meal can also be adjusted to fit a patient’s health condition. AAKP insists a kidney diet needs to be individualized for each patient and nothing can replace the advice a patient receives from their registered dietitians or doctor.
AAKP is pre-selling its new recipe book for just $10 each copy. Supplies are limited. Please call 1-800-749-2257 ext. 3 to place your order.
