Three Reasons a Travel Nurse Needs a Compact License

Whether you’re new to travel nursing or not, it’s important that you know the benefits to compact licensing.

The Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) is a multistate license that allows nurses to practice in their home state and other compact states. Think of it as a passport, allowing you to travel without applying for a different state license.

To find out if you’re eligible to apply, check to see if your home state is listed below:

Knowing the basics of compact licensing can help, but it doesn’t explain the benefits. Here are three reasons to apply for a Compact License:

  1. Opportunity. With over 34 states to choose from, the vast array of job assignments come with adventures of their own. When you’re not working, you can dive into new hobbies, make exciting memories, and live a life beyond an area code.
  2. Connection. The relationship you build with your recruiter will help serve as a guiding hand and best friend throughout your time as a traveler. Beyond that, meeting new co-workers can help create a supportive community that lasts long after your assignment is over.
  3. Experience. Most of our travel nurses mention how much they learn about their job on a travel assignment. Getting to try new things and learning how different hospitals function can make a big difference in the future of your nursing career.
