Travel nursing can lead to many things – a job in a new city, experience in a different specialty, and even a newfound partner.
For AHS traveler Amanda, travel nursing led her to all three.
At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Amanda decided to take an assignment in Phoenix, AZ, as an OR travel nurse. While working there, she met Heather, who was an ICU staff nurse at a nearby hospital. After hitting it off and going on multiple dates, the two officially started dating at a concert where their favorite DJ was performing.
Down the road, they decided that they wanted to travel the country together – and so their travel nursing adventure began.
Rather than opting for the traditional housing and lodging route, they decided to buy an RV together and renovate it themselves.
After a year of traveling the country and experiencing so much together, they knew they wanted to take their relationship to the next level. The catch? Neither of them knew that they were both planning similar proposals… literally.
With music at the heart of their relationship, Amanda and Heather coincidentally planned the same proposal – at the Breakaway music festival in Cancun.
At the festival where their favorite DJ was going to be performing, both had the idea to reach out to see if an on-stage proposal was doable (without each other knowing). Soon after, the performer’s management team reached out to Amanda to explain that they received a similar message from Heather.
As the situation developed, Amanda knew that Heather was planning the same proposal but had to play it off as if she didn’t.
Once the festival drew closer, Heather decided to make up a contest to convince Amanda that they had both won meet-and-greet tickets for the show.
At the show, the two made their way on-stage for the big reveal. Both got down on one knee at the same time, which resulted in a beautiful moment caught on video. Their amazing story has since gone viral!
In our interview with them, they mention someone approaching them after the show and saying, “I have two moms, and they never got to experience something like this. I’m just so happy that we’re living in a world where this is possible now.”
And we couldn’t agree more.
The newly engaged couple decided to continue their travel nursing career with AHS and their recruiter Michelle Swain.
They are currently on assignment in Saint Louis, MO, where Amanda works as an OR nurse, and Heather works in the Progressive Care Unit at the same hospital.
They plan to elope in Costa Rica with a small group of family and friends on 2/22/2022.
