Every year, nurses prove time and time again that their work has an immeasurable effect on the communities they serve.
While the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the need for nurses as it relates to overall patient care, measurable statistics conveying their dedication and commitment to serving others are not so clear.
Luckily, as a leading travel nursing agency, AHS compiled data over the past year to try and shed light on the “almost” unimaginable impact our travel nurses have across the country.
TIME SPENT SERVING PATIENTS
Our nurses spent over 1.5 million hours serving patients on a travel assignment. Crazy right? That number can seem unimaginable but could easily translate to more familiar ways nurses impact their patients. Whether it’s the gentle care of a loved one, a steady voice of reason, or the difference between life and death, nurses continue to show up and put in the time to change lives.
STEPS WALKED WHILE SERVING PATIENTS
If you’ve ever been to the hospital, you’ve likely seen a nurse making their rounds or running to care for a patient. Our nurses walked over 1.2 billion steps while serving patients on assignment. With this in mind, 1.2 billion steps walked is no small feat but can quickly become imaginable when put into context.
From a small outpatient clinic in an underserved community to a multi-million dollar hospital system in the heart of a growing metropolis, our nurses impact communities across the nation that reaches every corner of patient care. Collectively, our nurses served over 584+ hospitals and facilities nationwide.
TOP TRAVEL NURSING STATES
Whether it’s the breathtaking canyons of Arizona or the vibrant shorelines of Florida, our nurses leverage the opportunities we provide to take them places they’ve always dreamed of going. While a majority of these states are under the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC), we have thousands of travel assignments throughout the nation at any given moment. Here are the top 10 travel nursing states from the past year:
- North Carolina
YEARS SPENT ON ASSIGNMENT
While the average travel assignment lasts 13 weeks, AHS provides nurses with a wide range of assignment durations. Nonetheless, nurses at AHS spent a whopping 1,139 years on travel assignments – exploring during their time off, making new friends, and doing what they do best.
TOP NURSING SPECIALTIES
Given the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, these top four nursing specialties reflect the increased demand for nurses in hard-hit departments over the past year:
- Emergency Room
If you’re looking for a new way to make a difference, speaking to a recruiter to see what travel assignments are in your specialty is a great place to start.
No matter the metric used to show the impact AHS travel nurses have on overall patient care, we know that not everything can be quantified and measured holistically. We hope that these comparisons remind people of the work that goes into this demanding and straining field.
To our travel nurses at AHS, we are thankful for you and the dedication you put into serving others. You make us better every day.
